The useful transformation of energy from one form to another drives the engine of civilization, and Caltech researchers are at the forefront of that effort, working to create and build energy systems and technologies for the future that are robust, resilient, and reliable.

Caltech researchers have pioneered innovations in solar energy, catalysis, and battery storage. They are building a smart, more efficient energy grid with funding from the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and the National Science Foundation, among other federal agencies. They have developed cutting-edge technologies to assist in establishing low-carbon energy sources, and they have worked across disciplines to demonstrate the untapped potential for sunlight in space to be harvested and transmitted to power cities and communities on Earth.

This work to develop and inform our future energy systems extends from the lab to the classroom, where future STEM leaders are being trained today to address the problems of tomorrow.
